Zero Tolerance: FV Three Strike Policy Enforcement Update

As our biggest football season ever gets underway in Victoria, Football Victoria (FV) is disappointed to already see a pattern of behaviour that doesn’t belong in our game.

There is no excuse for abuse. Not at a match official. Not between coaches, spectators or players. Respect is the minimum standard at every venue, every weekend.

FV’s Three Strike Policy was developed to protect referees, players, coaches, volunteers and spectators, making it clear that match day abuse has consequences. It’s our line in the sand; and it is being actively enforced in 2026.

You can read the policy and view the public list of strikes already issued this season here.

We’d like to thank the efforts of so many clubs, creating environments where expectations are clear and football thrives. Clubs can help set the standard this season by taking a few simple steps:

  • Share the “No Excuse for Abuse” message and the Three Strike Policy link across club channels.
  • Set the standard by briefing coaches, team officials, players and spectators on what is acceptable at your club, and what is not.
  • Back your match officials, address concerns respectfully and escalate issues through the right channels.
  • Host a Respect and Responsibility workshop: FV can facilitate workshops alongside our industry partner at clubs. Email discipline@footballvictoria.com.au  for details.

Thank you to everyone in football for playing your part and delivering more great moments in 2026.
