SHIFTING THE PLAYBOOK

Football has the power to bring people together, but that can only happen when every player, coach, administrator, volunteer and supporter feels safe and respected.

The harm caused by racism goes beyond words. It causes and contributes to stress, anxiety, depression and chronic disease - impacts disproportionately experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and culturally and racially marginalised communities.

We’re proud to partner with VicHealth on Shifting the Playbook: Towards Cultural Safety and Equity in Victoria – a new program supporting the sport and recreation sector to create culturally safe environments that help prevent racism and strengthen community wellbeing.

Football Victoria is one of six peak bodies to undertake the project alongside VicHealth. By working with local government areas and community organisations across the state, we’re helping make local spaces more welcoming for everyone.

The Shifting the Playbook initiative will support building racial literacy, strengthening organisational processes, and leadership development to drive meaningful, long-term change within community organisations.

Together, we’re changing how sport and recreation are designed and delivered to make sure every person can enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits that come from being part of a team.

Because when everyone belongs, we all win.
